Children in Child Care

Control of Pandemic Flu Virus on Environmental Surfaces in Homes and Public Places

What is H1N1 (Swine Flu)

Press Release 6-5-2009

We will continue to implement the precautions the children have been following in school including:
1) Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or the inside of your elbow, not your bare hands when you cough or sneeze.
2) Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
3) Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
4) Avoid close contact with sick people. ("Close contact" means within 6 feet)
5) Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
6) If you get influenza-like illness symptoms, stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

Notifying the Recreation Department:
We are required by the Division of Family and Youth Services to notify families if their children have been exposed to certain communicable diseases. Our Information for Parents Packet has more detail about our Illness Policy. Please notify the Recreation Department if your child is diagnosed with any of illnesses listed in our policy, including H1N1.

"School or childcare participants with influenza-like illness (ILI), regardless of travel history,
should stay at home for least 7 days after the onset of illness and until their symptoms resolve. For the purpose of this policy, ILI is defined as an oral temperature greater than (>) 37.8o C
(100oF) AND cough AND/OR sore throat in the absence of another known cause (e.g., strep throat)."
