Attention Grades 5-12

To ensure your child's safety, Helmets are mandatory for all participants including Chaperones.
Wrist guards are mandatory for all Snowboarding participants.

Shawnee Ski/Snowboard Program Grades 5-9

 

Mark your Calendar! 6 trips!

The program begins on Friday, January 8, 2010 and continues for 4 more Fridays: 1/15/10,1/22/10,1/29/10, 2/5/10.

The 6th trip (2/12/10) is a bonus from Shawnee for registering before Thanksgiving.



The buses will depart from Turkey Brook Park at 4:30pm
(drop off in the Soccer Parking lot.) After an evening of open skiing, skiers will report back to their assigned bus by 10 p.m. to depart Shawnee Mountain Ski Area.

The buses will return to Turkey Brook Park at 11:00 p.m.

Parents, please be prompt for pickup. (Please park in the Soccer parking lot.)

In case of adverse weather conditions & possible postponement:
listen to WRNJ Radio (FM 1510) on FRIDAY afternoon. In addition, an announcement will be made at school or you may call a recorded message at (973) 691-0900 x 7262 on FRIDAY after 12:00 noon to hear of a postponement.
The Recreation Department will reschedule canceled trips; although, the make-up date may not be on a Friday.

Ski/Snowboard Lift only $340
Ski/Snowboard Lift & 5 Lessons $380

NEW Bus Only $215 per person

For 5th - 9th graders with their own season pass or their Parents, Parents with child(ren) younger than grades 5-9 (Children must be accompanied by their parents. Parents are responsible for their own child while at Shawnee). This option will be available on a first come basis, filling remaining space on a bus. Participants that ride the bus up will need to ride the bus back. There are no refunds or prorating the fee for missed trips. All other trip requirements apply. Please complete the Shawnee Liability Form and the medical release form (notarized) and return to Recreation by 12/6.

Upon arrival at Shawnee Mountain, instructions for lessons and equipment rentals will be given.

To stay warm, be sure to wear gloves/mittens, a hat, and dress in several layers. Ideally, non-cotton (i.e. polyester) may be worn as a first layer to wick water away from the skin. In addition, renters are advised to wear wide pants cuffs to fit over ski boots.

Helmets will be mandatory for all participants
Snowboarding Participants: Due to the high risk of wrist injuries, wrist guards are mandatory

Bus numbers will be distributed based on chronological registration number and grade.

There are 4 buses for the 2010 season. Bus 1 is 9th Bus 2 is 8th Bus 3 is 7th Bus 4 is 5th & 6th

Shawnee Behavior Problems and dismissals

Behaviors that will constitute suspension from the ski program include: Use or signs of use, of tobacco, alcohol, drugs; abusive or disruptive language; abusive or disruptive actions, violence - verbal or physical, disobedience of chaperone or Shawnee representative before, during, or after any trip.

(Make-up dates February 5, 12)

Coach Bus departs Mt. Olive High School at 3 pm and returns by 11pm
Registration deadline is November 6, 2009.
There is a registration late fee of $15.00 after Nov. 6th.
No refunds after Dec. 4

Participants may bring their equipment to school the morning of the trips.

Limited seating! Season passes available for Mt Creek & Camelback!

No rental packages available, participants responsible to rent or bring their own equipment.
