Tests show presence of Coliform Bacteria is in the Tinc Farm System located within the Township of Mt.Olive
We routinely monitor for the presence of drinking water contaminants. We took 8 samples during October and 2 samples showed presence of Total Coliform Bacteria. The standard is that no more than 1 sample per month may do so.
What This Means:
This is NOT an emergency. Total Coliform Bacteria themselves are generally not harmful. *Coliforms are bacteria which are naturally present in the environment and are used as an indicator that other; potentially-harmful, bacteria may be present.*
You may drink the water. However, if you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor.
Steps We Are Taking:
We had collected our 1 routine sample on October 19, 2011 which came back positive for Total Coliform/negative for E-Coli. Based on that result from our laboratory we then collected an additional 7 samples (including 2 raw water samples) on October 21, 2011 which came back with 1 sample positive for Total Coliform/negative for E-Coli. We then collected 5 samples on November 17, 2011 and all samples were negative.
A chlorine residual was present each time the samples were taken. We also adjusted our chlorine dosage to carry a higher residual through out the system
