Firearms Applications Information

The Mount Olive Township Police is now only accepting firearms applications for Firearms Purchaser Identification Cards and Pistol Purchase Permits electronically, through the Firearms Application and Registration System (FARS).

Please Note: Mt. Olive Twp ORI Number to be used is: NJ0142700

As of 12/22/2022, the current fee for Initial FID is $50 and the current cost per handgun purchase permit is $25. Please note these fees are IN ADDITION to the fees paid online during the application process.

These fees are payable to Mount Olive Twp via Check or Money Order and can be dropped off at Police Headquarters anytime after you submit your application online.  Payment can be made 24/7.

***Be sure to use our ORI if you live anywhere in Mount Olive Twp.  Some residents may have a Hackettstown mailing address, but live in Mount Olive Twp.  All Mount Olive Twp residents must use NJ0142700.  If you are unsure which ORI to use, please call us before you apply.  If you apply and put the wrong ORI, you cannot receive a refund and will need to reapply.

Conceal Carry Permit

ALL conceal carry permit applications should be made utilizing the online NJ Portal.  This is for both initial and application renewals.

For those who already have a conceal carry permit and wish to add additional guns to be carried, please fill out and submit the SP 182 form available on this page.  The form can be scanned and emailed to supportservices [at] mopd.org, or dropped of 24/7 at the dispatch center (ask for it to be left for the support services division)

Be advised as of 9/18/2023 - All applicants must follow the CCARE (Civilian Carry Assessment and Range Evaluation) protocol which replaces the Permit to Carry Safe Handling and Proficiency Qualification protocol (HQC2-modified).  The CCARE pdf is available for download on this page.  Please read the memorandum as well.

For individuals who completed firearms training prior to July 1, 2023, and whose permit to carry does not expire until after December 22, 2023, they must requalify on the CCARE protocol or the HQC2-modified protocol issued on July 21, 2023. An individual who completed a course of fire prior to the issuance of the CCARE Protocol is deemed to have satisfied N.J.S.A. 2C:58-4(g)(2) if and only if the prior course included each of the following:

  • A minimum of 50 scored rounds per participant
  • Minimum passage score of 80% using an FBI type Q target.
  • At least 10 rounds must be from the 15, 10, 7, 5, and 3 yard lines each, or if fewer rounds were fired from those distances, the remaining rounds must have been fired from greater distances.
  • The participant must demonstrate safe holstering and unholstering during the shooting course, which must include safely drawing the weapon from a secured holster before firing at each of the required
    distances and reholstering after completing the round.
  • The participant must demonstrate proficient and safe reloading during the shooting course
